The Lankavatara Sutra is a sutra of Mahayana Buddhism. The sutra recounts a teaching primarily between the Buddha and a bodhisattva named Mahamati ("Great Wisdom").
The sutra is set in Lanka, the island fortress capital of Ravana, the king of raksha.
